How to Mix For Color

Mixing For Color

By now we are all familiar with the concept of mixing yarns to create a custom fabric. Now let’s take it to the next level by Color Mixing to create your own color effects.

Create Custom Fabrics

First, select the color you want as your base. Now decide where you want to go with it. Do you want highlights, low-lights, an enchanting glimmer or to take your color in a more neutral direction? Do you want a subtle effect or a bold one? Use the guidelines below to get started on your Color Mixing journey.

Highlights:  Add a lighter version of the same color or a lighter neutral.

Lowlights: Use a darker version of the same color or a darker neutral.

Glimmer: Mix analogous (colors next to each other on the color wheel) for a gorgeous glimmer.

Subtle Color: Mix colors with similar values (the lightness or darkness of the color).

High Contrast Drama: Mix in a color that is much lighter or darker than your base color.

Many of our patterns come with Color Mixing suggestions but the possibilities are endless. What colors will you mix?
